The project strengthens dual vocational training in Antioquia in the fields of IT, tourism, and agriculture/food processing, qualifies young people for the labor market, and anchors practice-oriented training within local authorities, companies, and chambers of commerce.
Starting situation
Colombia possesses significant economic potential thanks to its climatic diversity and wealth of natural resources, but faces major social challenges. In Antioquia, youth unemployment is at 20%, and in rural areas up to 84% of employment is informal. The school dropout rate is over 20%, and nearly 26% of 14- to 28-year-olds are neither in education nor employment.
Dual vocational training is gaining importance and is being promoted specifically for particularly affected groups. With a law introduced in 2023, companies are required to offer training contracts or make compensation payments.
In phase 1 of the project, new occupational profiles were developed together with the Medellín & Antioquia Chamber of Commerce (CCMA) and the Servicio Nacional de Aprendizaje (SENA), the number of trainees was significantly increased, and the first dual training formats were implemented. Phase 2 aims to sustainably anchor and expand these structures, develop additional occupational profiles, and engage further chambers, training centers, universities, and companies in order to significantly increase the number of well-trained skilled workers.
Goal
The project partners are able to improve the employability of young people in selected professions within the digital, agricultural, food processing, and tourism sectors in the Antioquia region.
How we want to achieve the goal
- Development, revision, and implementation of 10 dual training programs in IT, tourism, and agriculture/food processing
- Recruitment of 90 companies to implement dual training formats
- Qualification of 200 representatives from chambers of commerce, companies, and educational institutions to deliver dual training
- Qualifizierung von 200 Vertreter/innen aus Handelskammern, Unternehmen und Bildungseinrichtungen zur Durchführung dualer Ausbildung
