Since September 2025, a dual training programme has been running in the textile and garment sector in the Medellín metropolitan area. The project “Alianza para la Formación”, supported by the AFOS Foundation, combines practice-oriented vocational training with targeted inclusion: 17 participants – most of them single mothers, including seven persons with hearing impairments – are currently completing dual training placements in local textile companies.
The first months show that close cooperation between companies, training institutions and local authorities creates tangible opportunities – for participants as well as for businesses.

Practice-oriented training for a key industry
For many years, the textile sector has been one of the defining industries in the Aburrá Norte region. To remain competitive in the future, it requires well-trained skilled workers and reliable training structures.
This is precisely where the dual training programme comes in. Inspired by the German model, it combines classroom instruction with practical work in companies. Participants learn directly within the production environment and acquire skills that can be applied immediately in daily operations.
Partnership-based collaboration
The programme is implemented jointly with the Municipality of Bello, Colombia’s National Training Service (SENA), and the Medellín Chamber of Commerce together with its Cluster for Fashion and Modern Production. Several textile companies provide training placements, mentor participants in their day-to-day work and contribute their professional expertise.
This creates a close integration of theory and practice, built on a partnership between the private sector, educational institutions and public authorities.
Inclusion strengthens economy and region
The deliberate inclusion of disadvantaged target groups is a central component of the programme. Inclusion in vocational training here means not only social participation, but also concrete economic prospects.
Companies gain motivated young professionals and invest at the same time in the stability of their region. For participants, the programme opens access to qualified employment and long-term career opportunities.

AFOS’ entrepreneurial approach
Through projects such as “Alianza para la Formación”, the AFOS Foundation strengthens practice-oriented training and entrepreneurial structures in Colombia. The aim is to build sustainable skills, promote regional value creation and combine economic development with social responsibility.
The dual training programme in the textile sector demonstrates how vocational education, inclusion and competitiveness can work together – to the benefit of individuals, companies and entire regions.
